The 2022 Tanzania Health Summit took place from 11th to 13th October at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam and was officiated by Dr Godwin Mollel, Deputy Minister of Health, who represented Dr Phillip Mpango, the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania.
HPSS Project was the golden sponsor of the summit, which was themed “Quality of Healthcare in Tanzania: The Current Status and Area of Improvement toward achieving the Health Sector Strategic Plan Five (HSSP-V)”. The summit sought to explore and inform stakeholders about the present situation and areas that will need more resources and efforts to achieve the HSSP-V quality targets.
HPSS project is committed to promoting continued collaborative efforts of the public and private sector in ensuring delivery of quality healthcare to the Tanzanian population.
During the summit, HPSS project showcased its contributions towards the achievement of the HSSP-V through its innovations, specifically the improved Community Health Fund, dubbed CHF Iliyoboreshwa and the complementary health commodities supply chain, the Jazia Prime Vendor System.
Furthermore, HPSS project shared results and study findings that provide insight in its approaches and successes towards the realization of Tanzania’s HSSP-V at a dedicated two-hour forum during the summit under the banner: “Realizing the Tanzanian Health Sector Strategic Plan: Past and current contributions of the HPSS Project.” The panel consisted of HPSS/SwissTPH representatives, SDC and PORALG.
The key focus of the summit was the need for continued cooperation between various stakeholders and the government in the implementation of healthcare initiatives, based on the national strategic plan. The achievements of HPSS project were duly acknowledged for contributing to the government's effort to advance healthcare in the country.
Alongside the main theme and sub-themes, the summit offered over 100 research and program presentations, a diversity of parallel health forums and symposiums from various organizations, exhibitions, a youth workshop; further innovation, healthcare recognition awards and cocktail receptions. HPSS contributed seven short oral presentations that were well attended.
The resolutions from the summit are expected to feed into the 23rd Joint Annual Health Sector Technical Review Meeting and the Annual Health Sector Policy Review Meeting in November and December 2022 respectively.
